Architecture Affect Humans

By Perception

Sense - Human - Cognition

Humans receive external information through the senses. They process that information and form thoughts based on those interactions. Architecture plays an intermediary role, as substance of contact with people, triggering a specific cognition and thought process.

Perception

When the human enters architectures, human perception is influenced by senses, sight, hearing, touch, and smell. Those senses are awakened through material texture, light intensity, spatial density and so on. Wood creates sense of warmth; the shaping of light produces solemnity; open space creates sense of relaxation.

Experience - Architecture - Purpose

The only way for architectural design is to provide specific sensory experiences designed to exert changes upon human perception, thus achieving a certain purpose. Architect must focus on the most basic aspects of architectural design, to probe its intermediary role and to broaden its methods of affecting perception.
