Mixed-use

In her book "The Death and Life of Great American Cities," Jane Jacobs underscores the vitality of urban communities that embrace diversity. This project embodies that principle, presenting a mixed-use complex featuring a market on the ground floor and residences above.
Distinct in their demands and characteristics, markets thrive in open, lively spaces, while residences favor enclosed, tranquil settings. Traditional mixed-use projects often rigidly separate public and private areas. However, to bridge the gap between the dynamic market and serene residences, a transitional space—a green line—is introduced.
Functioning as a landscape feature, this green line serves to enhance site vitality and seamlessly connect the market and residential components. Drawing inspiration from New York's High Line Park, the green line acts as an urban arcadia, fostering community interaction.
Starting at one end of the site, the green line follows the river, traverses the complex, and concludes on the opposite side. The curve of the green line determines the layout of the landscape corridor, market massing, and residence placement. Through this green intervention, the market, landscape, and residences are intricately associated yet thoughtfully separated, creating a harmonious balance between diverse urban functions.
