Architecture maintains close ties to painting. It can not only be used as architecture rendering but also be served as the inspiration of architecture. In the design, the immersive theatre is translated from a painting step by step. The study model of Villa dall'Ava extracts the center spine and abstracts the volume by carving sections on a series of the acrylic board. The section is formed and collaged from two bevel cuts of the study model, which is the prototype of the painting.
In the process of design, each phase is translated logically from the previous one. The diagonal lines are extracted and regarded as walls. And a courtyard is inserted to stretch the form, following the shape of the site. Just like the painting, the architecture volumes submerge under the framework, while the framework is combined with a mass in different ways. The solid walls and transparent glasses emphasize the diagonal lines in the painting. The architecture has erased the notion of floor in order to encourage people to explore the building and create an independent interior world of immersive theatre. During the show, the audience follows actors from the lower floors to the upper floors and finally comes to the roof to watch the climax of the play.
The integration of framework and mass create spaces of a different atmosphere, which guides people to have different behavior. Spaces are not isolated but are visually connected with each other. It provides audience views of the play and emphasizes the program of immersive theatre.
